The Toggenburg Breeders Society was formed in 1978 and brings together breeders from all over the country to share information, provide mutual
support and make the best use of available bloodlines.

A small, deep bodied and compact goat, the Toggenburg is considered an ideal household milk producer. But also has a reputation around the world as an exceptional improver of native stock.

Because it is originally a mountain breed, the Toggenburg is very hardy
and adaptable to changes in environment and remarkably free of genetic
faults, despite being a pure or ‘closed’ breed.

The breed played a major role in the development of today’s high quality British goats, particularly the ‘made up’ breeds of the British Toggenburg
and British Alpine. With exports to all parts of the world, from the Falkland
Islands to the Far East, it became known as ‘The Great Improver.’

Visitors to the show will be able to get advice on keeping goats and
see them first hand in the Livestock Marquee.

The Willowbank Toggenburgs will be back for the 2012 Edible Garden Show!

This time Dunlin and Turnstone will be joined by Turnstone’s daughter Lapwing who is a Breed Champion, and Dunlin’s son, Pan who is a lovely gentle male goat who has had a very busy winter entertaining several very beautiful lady goats. Heather who was only baby last year will be there as well and they are all bringing their new baby kids with them, so there will be lots of things to do in the goat area. Nanny goats to milk, baby kids to bottle feed and cuddle and a gentle ‘Billy Goat Gruff’ to talk to. We shall be giving advice on all aspects of goat keeping and doing live demonstrations on how to trim feet, groom, and show your goat. There will be sessions when you can go in with the goats to brush and stroke them and tell them your secrets.

We will be holding a little competition each day for the most unusual question asked about goats. Come and see us to learn more.
