The National Trust is Europe’s largest voluntary conservation organisation. We look after 300 historic houses and gardens and 255,000 hectares of land, including 618,000 acres of farmland, making us the nation’s largest farmer. As an independent charity, we couldn’t function without the support of our 4 million members and 60,000 volunteers who help us to protect special places for ever, for everyone.
At the Edible Garden Show, step into our rambling gardener’s shed packed with intriguing artefacts and fascinating facts about how food from country estates was once cultivated and used throughout the year. Discover the special link between a grand country house and its gardens and parkland and see how this relationship continues today, with home-grown fruit, veg, eggs and meat appearing on National Trust menus across the country. We’re talking food metres rather than food miles!
Visitors of all ages can have fun handling items and exploring the food that is still produced on National Trust land today. Those with green fingers will love the opportunity to chat with local National Trust Head Gardeners about their fascinating work and to get hints and tips that can be used in any garden. Find out more at our sessions in the Experts Theatre.
