NSALG

NSAGLThe Edible Garden Show is proud to enjoy the exclusive support of the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners (NSALG), the leading representative body for the UK’s allotments sector.

The NSALG, based in Corby, Northamptonshire, was formed in 1901 and is THE recognised national body for the allotment movement in the UK. It is the only full-time professional organisation specifically representing the interests of allotment gardeners and is non-profit making. It represents around 2,000 societies with a total UK membership of approximately 103,000 – and affiliated to international membership of 3.5 million across Europe.

The NSALG is recognised by the Government, other major organisations including the Royal Horticultural Society, Natural England, the Food Standards Agency and the Town and Country Planning Association, and the media as the voice of the allotment movement.

The society is also part of the official consultation process relating to the disposal of statutory allotment land resulting in several saved sites.

Surveys confirmed by the NSALG reveal that there are now 100,000 people in the UK on allotment waiting lists and in some areas the expected wait for an allotment is up to 40 years. There are 300,000 plot holders in the UK.

Interest is said to be approaching the level reached during the Second World War when food supplies were limited and people were encouraged to “dig for victory”.

Countdown to the show!
