Testing times

testingThe success of any Grow Your Own enterprise can often depend on two simple letters – pH. At The Edible Garden Show our experts will spell out the differences between acidic and alkaline soil, highlighting what’s best for different crops.

And they’ll even turn their attention to the specific problems of YOUR garden, thanks to pH testing being carried out on-site during the show. Simply bring along a sample of your home soil and the team will carry out analysis, then guide you through the ideal crops to grow – whether acidic-loving potatoes and strawberries or alkaline-loving brassicas.

They’ll also offer the lowdown on safely changing pH – spelling out the impact of additives such as sulphates, nitrates or agricultural lime – and will provide an insight into how the pH can influence nutrients and diseases within the soil.
