As the grow-your-own revolution gathers speed, gardeners keen to extend the growing season and ensure a steady supply of fresh home-grown produce for the family are snapping up polytunnels. The sturdy structures, once only used by commercial growers and farmers for soft fruits, weather-sensitive vegetables and plants, are now commonplace in back gardens and allotment plots across the UK. They come in different shapes and sizes and are proving invaluable to growers in exposed regions – from the Falkland Islands and remote Highlands down south to the Cornish Coast. Meet a master

Masters trained by the UK’s leading organic gardening charity will be on hand to answer visitors’ questions and get hands on at the show. Master Gardeners and Master Composters who volunteer on two of Garden Organic’s successful schemes to support people to grow food and compost, will share their expertise during the three day show. The Masters programmes are two projects led by Garden Organic, that train volunteers to go out into their communities to help other people grow food or compost. Exhibitors rush to sign up for the show in 2012

Just five months after the successful launch of The Edible Garden Show, the first-ever national event dedicated to grow-your-own fruit and vegetables, organisers are on course to deliver their promise that the 2012 exhibition will be bigger and even better! Almost the same number of exhibitors which attended the launch event in March have signed up for 2012 while The Edible Garden Show sales team is talking to numerous other exhibitors poised to join the three-day gardening extravaganza. Delighted exhibitors return to sign up for next year’s Show

The Poultry Club of Great Britain and The Toggenburg Breeders Society, which is affiliated to The British Goat Society, are returning to The Edible Garden Show in March 2012 following the triumph of this year’s event which attracted nearly 11,000 visitors. Both have booked their plots at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire where they will showcase their livestock and give advice on keeping and breeding poultry and goats. And they are not alone. Organisers have seen 55 per cent of companies from The Edible Garden Show 2011 return to rebook for next year and the number of new exhibitors booking early to ensure they get a prime location to showcase their products is also on the rise.
